Fuel Bowl issues

So when I did the new injectors this weekend, I decided to change the fuel filter that I had been neglecting. It was absolutely the worst filter I have ever seen. It was full of rust for one thing, and big pieces too. I suppose thats from the tank? Also, it has some brown mucus like substance on it, which I assumed must be algea? I have never seen it before so I am going to get some algecide today.

But then I noticed a fuel drip from the connection at the top of the regulator. I think its for the Water in Fuel sensor. Is it safe to try thread tape to stop the leak?

Thanks,
Phil

If ya'll are seeing black/black rubbery pieces that is indicative of one or more injector orings that are damaged. The pieces could be pieces of the orings, and the black could be oil.

Phil, you can just plug that sensor with I believe an 1/8" pipe plug if you wish. Just don't overtighten it.

The heater has long since been eliminated on my truck.

I did have damaged o-rings, but they are fixed now.

OK, but if i can just put thread tape on it, wouldn't that be better? I don't think its the sensor itself leaking. I'm just not sure if the diesel would eat up the tape.

If you want the sensor and its just the threads, you can try thread tape. They do make a gas rated thread tape, that is what I used on my efuel fittings.

Fwiw be very careful about using tape, when you over tighten that fitting it can crack the housing where the threads are (I just read that). IMHO thread tape aggravates that condition, I'd use some good thread dope.
