FPR LEAK??
Good Afternoon Gentleman,
I have found that my FPR is dripping about every 20-30sec. It drips where the plastic meets the metal. It is an easy fix but the dealer want $280.00 and the parts store wants $170.00. I thought I remembered that on a 96 you can plug it with a 3/8" pipe plug with some Teflon tape. Questions. Is this recommended or should I bite the bullet and spend the money on another one? Is the FPR leaking a sign of a bad one, and can that cause a loss in fuel pressure? Thanks in advance.

Is this the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) we're talking about here of the Fuel Filter Restriction sensor?
Fuel Filter Restriction sensor can be pulled and plugged with aforementioned pipe plug (just don't over-tighten it or you risk cracking the fuel bowl). The FPR has to stay, but I think you're probably talking about the restriction sensor.

Won't cause rough running but while your there you might as well clean the FPR screen. Thay may cause rough running. You can also check your UVCH connections to see if you have burnt or melted conditions.

Easy way to test them is start your truck, and then unplug each of the 4 outer connectors on the VCG's one at a time. The one that doesn't make a difference in the idle is the bad connector. 9 times out of 10, the connector is fried and melted beyond repair. Best way to fix the problem is replace everything; VCG's, UVCH's, and engine harness connectors.
