STUCK IPR?

97 PSD WITH 128K, have a no start scenario with no codes . Batteries & cps (tach) good, cranking fuel psi good, fuses good (#22 unplugged at fuel bowl) unplugged ipc, also swapped pcm and idm with known function parts with no success. I had a stuck idm on another truck awhile ago and the symptoms seem identical. I notice that the hpop oil level is within 1/2 inch from top does not drop from repeated cranking. Wondering if the hpop level should be lower when cranked 9 times. For some reason I want to think that if the ipr were functioning correctly the hpop oil would drop after quite a few cranks (10 seconds per crank) . Thanks, ROnjon

Do you have a way to monitor ICP and IPR duty cycle while cranking? That will help with diagnosing the issue.

never got AE or any other of that stuff. At this point easier to pull the ipr and clean it. Basically had the alternator backside charge wire break off and caused the truck to shut down while driving. Have had a few of these and going off of memory it seems like the HPOP would run oil while cranking. Gonna do another thread search as I remember discussing this previously, thankx

Just had this exact same scenario. Truck died running down the road and would not restart. Took IPR out and apart. Gave it a good cleaning and the truck fired right off.

From what I've read, if you have a good LPOP then it will keep the HPOP res full while cranking. Also, cleaning a IPR is, for the most part, a temporary fix.

had some previous success with cleaning ipr and no recurring problems so am incluned to do that next. Wonder what is the part that wears out in the ipr besides o rings? already did the orings on it anyway. Made me up a special socket to get ipr out so its only a 10 minute job on the removal.

Do you still have the fuel bowl?. Can you post a pic of the special socket?

There are a few moving metal parts in there that can become worn. The solenoid may also be a problem, and cleaning cannot fix that.
