It is the same exact fuel as road fuel, other than it has dye in it to indicate it is for off road vehicles only. Road taxes are not applied to it, that is why it is cheaper. Getting caught with it in your tank will cost you BIG $$$
Your truck won't run any different with it, but I don't advise using it.
There used to be a difference in sulfur content, but I believe the above post is correct and now it's just dye and not taxed.
In Kalifornia the Highway Patrol has set up stops occasionally and pull over ALL diesels. Along with visual on the emissions they also thief the tank(s) and check for dye. I've been told the stuff hangs around even if you stop using it -- I'm not too sure where that would be other than filter media maybe...

your tractors IF it was on the trailer and they could watch you filling it.
It came from the same pump as the street taxed pump and no dye.
The station was a Cenex Co-op. It's gone now I used to get diesel for
my hot water pressure washers and got the non-tax price. (Tax Exempt Fuel)

And history has shown what happens in California today will come to your town tomarrow. I predict nation wide testing soon for home brewed bio as well. The tax gathers already wring thier hands and pace the floor over lost taxes on wvo and home made bio. As quick as the wive's tales about bio are debunked, clandestine production of bio will increase to a degree that will not be tolerated.
