My 95 f150 has a sqeak common from the fronts end. It's a constant squeak and gets worse when I hit the gas. Almost feels like a hub isnt locking out the whole way. So does anyone have any ideas and know where I can look up the torque specs bolts on it. I want to look at the bearings to.
Check the Fron End link in my signature, all the info you need should be there. If the noise comes and goes when you brake you should check them, if it's constant but changes with speed, then your probably are dealing with a worn-out bearing.
Check the body to see if any bolt is loose, also check the nuts at the top of the shocks. Does it become more noticeable when you go through water? (I know this isn't common unless you live in the country, but still). If everything else checks then replace the bearings, there are 3 bearings in there, and any of them (specially the smaller pilot bearing) could be the cause.
Ok I'll look at the ones I can find and also the shock mount bolts. Also I'll look at the bushings for the leaf springs because I know those mounts are rusty. And yeah im in the country and run beside the train tracks in pequea PA so that beats the shocks. So I'll look at all that and check back with y'all.
I forgot to tell you, all the bearings are serviceable, you could grease them up and reinstall then, if they look PERFECT, if there is any sign of wear, replace. The pilot bearing is the most probable culprit, that one usually requires replacement.
It isn't anymore noticable when I go through water. Also its more of a constant squeak when it does it. Any chance it could be a hung up caliper. The truck don't pull though. The bushing by the shocks were a little cracked but there weren't pieces falling off. I can't see any of the light brown rust coming from the u joints that points lack of grease or any where else that can take grease but the u joints ain't serviceable. Like I can't hit them with grease. There wasn't a body bolt or screw that I could find loose. Thanks for the help but also were is the pilot bearing.
My friends GMC had a u joint on the front drive shaft go out and that was almost the same noise mine is making. Does the front driveshaft spin with the truck out of 4x4. Also it won't stop if it is in 4x4 or not. Tonight I'll take a better look at the suspension and get back to y'all.
If the hubs are unlocked and the transfer case is shifted to 2H the front driveline should not rotate. If it does the hubs are probably sticking in the locked position. If they are the factory Ford automatic hubs, go pick up some manual lockouts and throw the auto's in the trash where they belong. With no front end driveline spinning, is the noise gone?
If no, check brakes and wheel bearings. I've always had a U-joint make a repetitive squeak squeak squeak noise rather than anything constant (like a wheel bearing or light brake drag).
If yes, lock the hubs and see if the noise returns. If it does look at the spindle bearing in the inner diameter of the backside of axle spindle. You'll need a spindle socket and preferably a slide hammer to use on the socket (Autozone rents these) to remove the spindle. The small needle bearing could be the culprit. While in there, pull the axle shafts and replace the outer most U-joints (the inner of the two on the passenger side tends to last a lot longer and may be completely fine, in over 200k I have not replaced that inner passenger side joint). All this is the time to replace all the seals in there and repack the wheel bearings. Replace anything (bearings) with pitting.
They are already lock out hubs. One side is a warn for sure but I aint sure about the other. It is a off and on squeak up to about 20 mph. Then it sounds more constant. It is still there in 4x4 with hubs in and out. With hubs out I go super slow like idle the auto trans. I looked for slop in the u joints and didn't find none same with the light brown rust that comes from a dry one. It could also be from the front u on the rear shaft.
I know. Im kinda new and I don't know how to view signatures. Tonight I took a real good look at the suspension pieces. The bushing were kind of dry rotted and nothing was loose. It's rainin here and when I was spinning the squeak was there so it would have to be in the rear drive line. The back u on the shaft has a grease fitting the front doesn't which tells me the back on was replaced because no others have fittings. I'll fix that u and get back to y'all if it fixes it. Also some help with the site would be cool. Thank y'all for the help so far.
I'd bet it is that rear driveshaft front U-joint. They usually get squeaky before they get loose. Sometimes you'll hear a "snap" noise when you shift to drive after backing up too.
I have a greaseable rear most U-joint too, big fan. I grease it every 1000-1500 miles and haven't had an issue with it yet, grease displaces the water so it just lasts. They are meant for "severe service" because most people won't grease them often enough but if you do it should last a very long time.
