Hey guys... I have a 1993 f250 off road. 245k an 38" tires It seems to be lacking on power and I know part of it is the tires but I'm looking to see if any of you guy know if I can pull the 351 and drop in a 7.3? Either that or some very cost effective horse and torque.
Regear the truck. Whatever you have in it definitely isn't low enough to pull the 38" tires effectively. You'll probably want to go to 4.56 gears if you do a lot of highway driving, maybe even 4.88 if you do a lot of city driving. If it's a mostly offroad truck, a Dana 60 front end and a swap to 5.13 gears would do wonders.
On which route? If you got a Dana 60 (which I'd recommend, as the D50 front doesn't typically last long with tires bigger than 35") it would cost about 1000 for the axle alone. Gears vary in price depending on where you get them and whether or not you can install them yourself. But a ballpark price to have them ordered and installed by a shop would probably be another grand if I had to take an educated guess.

I think I would go with the 4:55 and I'm going to down size the tires, I need a better load rating also
