Driveline Vibration

Now that I use my truck as a daily driver I am noticing a vibration under acceleration at 30-35 and constant vibration at 45-50 accelerating or maintaining speed.I have replaced all three u-joints as well as new ribbed highway tires all around and still have the vibration. It seems worse in OD.I have done a little research and am either going to shim center support/machine a new one or have a one piece shaft made and would like input from anyone who has successfully gotten rid of this vibe on their truck mainly the amount of shimming required and the final driveline angle. It seems that most posts regarding this issue lean towards the fact that the 45-50mph vibe is normal for my year super duty and that's probably right but I want to remedy problem not "live with it!" Any input will definitely be appreciated (10 mile 45mph stretch to work @ 4AM, vibe bugs the heck out of me!)truck is 2000 f250 SC 2wd 4r100 3.73 gear currently 51000 miles.

Have you replaced the shocks yet? Worn shocks would shift vibration speed from one to another.

Now I recall a thread where someone posted very authoritative instructions on how to change the angled shims on the rear axle springs to deal with a vibration. I think the deal was that if the shim (the 2" block spacer, really) was 1.75" thick at the front and 2" or 2.25" at the back, take it out and put it in the other way round, or get a flat one and try that. I have a vibration at 55 mph, but I haven't tried the trick yet.

I'm recently new to owning a F350 and also have noticed this vibration. I would agree with the OP about OD making it worse. If I leave OD on, it will shift into it around 35-40 depending on throttle and then starts shaking. Almost chugging like it's too high of a gear. If I turn OD off, I can go right up past 45 with no shake. Curious why OD plays such an effect.

I'm hoping to swap my blocks around Memorial Day.... It's driving me nuts

Best article I've found on understanding your driveline, what causes vibrations and how to fix them..

I have heard of flipping the axle blocks around and may try that first instead of guessing at driveline angles with shimming center bearing carrier.I checked out that post Redford and if I could have a shaft made locally at close to that price I'd jump on it but the only reputable shop near savannah wants twice that!Still researching but think I will flip blocks around and take shafts to work next week make sure they are balanced and go from there. If that doesn't work ill start shimming carrier support. As far as shocks go I'd like to replace them anyhow and will probably install new this weekend and do one change at a time on the other stuff.I will definitely share my results with FTE.Thanks for the input and if anyone else reads post and knows the ideal driveline angle for these trucks please post or PM.

I have been chasing the vibration since I got my truck last year. I know it wasn't tires or wheels as I have switch around 2 sets of wheels and 3 sets of tires troubleshooting that.

Not the engine as it does it during coast, cruise and a little on acceleration. Also tried nervously shifting to neutral at 50 mph and it was there.

I knew the u-joints were decent, but swapped those out, still there.

Stumbled across the recent thread on swapping blocks and WTH? If that is really the issue what the heck was Ford thinking?

My old 2005 SCLB didn't have any vibration issues, but my current 06 SCSB is annoying from 45 to about 51/52 mph. Especially the 48-50 range.

Just wanted to update:

I swapped my rear blocks side to side and totally cured the vibration from 45-52 mph.

I have a supercab/ shortbed for those curious.

The angles before were TC 3.3 degrees and axle 7.1 degrees
After 3.3 degrees and 1.5 degrees. Perfect unloaded.

Awesome.I haven't had a chance to work on truck because of work.I have a perfectly good set of shocks that I have yet to install and when I do I am definitely going to flip blocks.Thank you for sharing success as well as shaft angle.Mine is a long bed but I have heard elsewhere that the flipping of the blocks works for super cab LB too.Hopefully this Sunday I will get somewhere with truck.

I thought the long beds had flat blocks and the carrier bearing is what needs shimmed.

Drove a lot today and the swap Definately made a difference.
