I am preparing to install a 4bbl S code manifold on a rebuilt 390.
I am having a hard time cleaning out the heat crossover passage between #2 and #7 cylinders. How clean does it have to be? I've been blowing compressed air in it for an hour back and forth and black carbon deposits keeps coming out. Please advise. Thank you
Use electrolysis is probably the best bet if you want the entire thing rust free and perfectly clean. Another option is just to drop it in a tank full of hot soapy water and let it soak. Add some CLR if really want it clean.
If it were me I would take it to an automtive engine rebuilder and have them hot tank it. If they still do that. It been a few years since I worked in a rebuild shop. That usually cooks out most carbon build ups. They used to use some pretty costic to us not so much to steel and cast heated to a very hot temp.
