Ok guys when I pulled my exhaust manifolds I pulled my spark plug wires...and forgot to label them. The truck was running real good before I removed the manifolds and wires, but it did have one misfire from a dead stop when I last drove it.
Fast forward to now. Now I plugged in all the wires as my chiltons manual suggested. I have the wires configured for a firing order of 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. The truck keeps trying to start, but it keeps backfiring a ton through the carb and it refuses to fully start and run. I tried reversing the distributor cap 180*, but that didn't help at all. The plugs are newer and so are the wires and the cap/rotor. What am I doing wrong?
Also, this is on a Ford 400 with a C6 tranny in my 78' f250 supercab.
I know the cylinders are labeled 1-4 down the passenger side and 5-8 on the drivers side.
I did get the problem resolved...turns out that the distributor cap had a #1 cast into it that I didn't see. It tuned out that I had all my wires shifted over by 1 all the way around. Once I fixed that, the truck fired right up.
