it is a 90 2.9l w/ auto supercab. my Haynes manual states to set timing I may have to pull a shorting plug and jumper the plug on the barometric sensor if installed. where are those items and what do they look like, if I have them? I have only owned carb'd non-computerized vehicles
Your Haynes manual should show you exactly where they are and what they look like. I have not owned a 2.9L but its usually in the harness along the firewall or somewhere near the distributor.
As to what it looks like, its a little plug in a socket. You will know it when you see it.
The plug you pull is for SPOUT (spark out), and it disconnects the timing from the computer so that the ignition module(TFI) is the only source of timing.
SPOUT is always a single wire deal, but the connectors can be different. Sometimes you just disconnect a plug and socket, but I think that on others, you actually pull a little plug out -- that causes the circuit to be disconnected. In any event, it's always a 1 wire circuit.
You can usually find it by checking out your ignition module -- Haynes should show you where that is. Many were on the distributor, but they moved some to (I think) the side of the engine compartment --- because of heat issues.
Don't know why you'd have to do anything with a BARO sensor. The TFI will control the timing and it has no other inputs.
Oldfuelinjection.com has a lot of info about the systems on these trucks -- you might find some pics there.
