Now that I have finally have some time to tinker with my '97' F250 7.5 I have a question. I have read where folks have been bumping up the timing but to disconnect the 'spout connector' before doing it. Would someone enlighten me as to where that is? I am venturing it is somewhere near the drivers side firewall. but a picture or diagram would go a long ways. Thanx
alrighty then. found the connector but its not plugged into anything, just has a grey plug inserted into it. Am I right in thinking the plug has to be removed before I mess with the timing? sorry, your dealing with a Dodge/ cummings person here, I've only had this rig for 6 months.
Yeah that's it, the spout signal runs between the ignition module and computer and when the grey plug is removed that disables computer ignition advance.. same as pulling the vacuum line off an old mechanical distributor. With the timing light connected you can see the effects of removing/inserting the plug. And FYI... cyl #1 on these Fords is passenger side front and the distributor turns counter clockwise so the base has to rotate clockwise to advance timing.
Many thanks guys. The last Ford PU I owned was a '68' 1/2 Tn. 4x4. Man, that was a good truck. Alot easier to work on. I don't have the factory manuals so these forums have been a real deal when getting info and advice. thanx again
