hi i have a 1986 f-150 4x4 wood like to redo whole cab over rugs, redo dash color and what year bench buchet seat's will bolt to old bench.what inusulaion did you use any help will be very thankful jerry
All the cabs are the same up to around 96, a little later for the larger trucks. Anything from old tar paper to the fancy stereo sound blocking stuff will work for insulation.
When I am going to redo my 84 F250's cab, I'll use that spray on rubber under coating and build it up. My friend did his 92 F150 and it quieted the noise down better than I though that stuff would!
On the dash repaint, make sure you use ONE BRAND of paint. I didn't(one brand did not have the proper color) when I repainted the window panels for my 85 Plymouth, the diffrent paints had a fight and now I have munged up panels......
I just repainted my 89 F250 dash, had no problems as I learned from my boo-boo. Just CLEAN the plastic really good and a light scuffing will allow the paint to stick.
If you do paint the plastic, consider using TSP to clean it (especially if there is any chance it has ever been Armor-ALL'd) and some sort of adhesion promoter.
