Looking in to buying a 1976 F-250 Ranger from a good friend. Just want to be sure that I'm getting the good deal that I think I'm getting by consulting the experts.
I wish I had some pictures of it now but I don't, tomorrow I can get some.
Anyhow, it is 76 with a 390 and a 4-speed 2 wheel drive, standard cab long bed. The paint is pretty gone on it but it doesn't look all that bad. Everything is there, 100% original and there is no body damage. There is some surface rust in the bed, but nowhere else that I could see.
It fires right up and sounds great, and cruises down the road without any problems. The engine compartment looks amazing, no leaks or oil coating around any of the motor/transmission. The interior is immaculate. No tears in the upholstery and no cracks in the dash. It's got some decent rubber on it and some nice rims. It has the original owners manual as well.
He wants $1500 for it, think it's worth it based on what I can tell you?
It may be different in your area, but that sounds like an excellent deal based on your discription. Have you checked craigslist for similar trucks? Here's one near me. 1976 Ford F-150
Trying to answer this question is like looking at Playboy magazine without pics.
Were it a 4x4, and based on your description, $1,500 would be a bargain....2wd's don't bring as much resell value (up to 50% less), doesn't mean it's not worth $1,500 but hard to say without pics.
I have no doubt the truck has a whole lot of life left in it as it sits, but I would be buying it for a restoration and it seems like it is a perfect truck to start out with. I have a tendency to buy things too quickly without doing enough research, and I don't want to jump in and buy the truck just because it's my friend. Looking around my area I found a few similarly priced but the condition doesn't seem as good by looking at the pictures.

I know, I'm gonna try and get some to post up tomorrow.
Normally I would never buy a 2WD truck, but I already have a 4x4. I just want to clean this thing up and make it a weekend cruiser.
That's the kind of truck i'm looking for as a donor body (i hate doing body work), just preferably around the 1K range.
My local yard had a cherry truck like that just two weeks ago, no drive train or frame, just beautiful rust-free, straight sheet metal, original paint.....it was already sold just waiting to be picked up, only 600 bucks! i missed it by two days.
