Alright i have a 78 f150 custom 4x4. I changed cabs on it because my old one was beat and rusted out. This new one didn't have a windshield in it. I do still have a good windsheild sitting in my old cab. How much would be a good price to have a shop change my windshield and put in in my new cab? Thanks guys
Get a new gasket if yours is not in excellent condition. I replaced a cracked windshield with a new one and a new gasket from Dennis Carpenter whose gaskets have a good reputation and still wound up having to have a bead of sealer ran around it to keep it from leaking. Mine leaked in between the gasket and the glass, not between the cab and the gasket, was told the aftermarket glass is not as thick as OEM, makes sense. If your old windshield is in good shape, I say use it. If you dont want to tackle it then best bet is to call around and get some prices.
I just got a quote for mine here and new glass, gasket and install at my home was $306. I would tackle this myself, but figured that if I had a pro do it and it leaked than at least I'd have someone to complain too and they could fix it.
Safelite was pretty high here. I got a quote for around $300+, but I opted for a local company called Deal's Auto Glass. They installed their windshield with my rubber seal and also the chrome trim. They also installed a slider that I had for the back and installed the chrome trim in the rubber seal there as well. I think it was $223 all said and done.
I paid $175 for a new windshield with the tinted strip on top for my Crew Cab. I got the gasket from Dennis Carpenter. A friend helped me install it. Going to have to replace it again...hail storm last week and the only vehicle glass damaged was my three month old Crew's. Split top to bottom right in the center.
Just found a guy here that will do it for $205, front windshield, gasket, labor. Also, he'll do my back gasket only for $40 labor and $42 for the gasket. Great guy, but I'm gonna look up any issues with him first (e.g. BBB).
