351W oil pump drive rod jammed.

My 86 F250, 351W 4bbl, I took the distributor out of it last night to fix a sticky mechanical advance, upon re installing the distributor I had found that my oil pump drive rod pulled out of the oil pump and now is sitting jammed crooked between the oil pump drive shaft hole and the side of the oil pump. My dad and I have tried for about 2 hours now with needle nose pliers, and all sorts of stuff to get it out or freed up and it just won't go. At first it was free and in the hole but it kept falling over to one side. I turned the engine (with the distributor NOT in the engine) and now it's jammed up 6 ways from Sunday. Before I turned the engine it was free and in the hole. How the heck do I get it out of the engine or back in place without dropping the oil pan, can I get to it by removing the timing cover? I've had the timing cover off before and don't really remember being able to get to it that easily. I'm very frustrated with this, if anyone has any tips please let me know.

Gotta pull the oilpan..Sorry. If it's truly sitting the way you say it is, it's likely you've bent the oil pump drive.

I know it's not bent, because if I shine a flash light down there I can see the whole thing. It's not all that big of a deal if I have to pull the pan, because the back of my oil pan has a very slow seep. So I get to take care of that at the same time.
