in my last thread,i stated that my 86 f150 351w leaks oil from the intake.a mechanic told me to go the easy route first by making sure its not the o ring seal from the dizzy.when i pull this,is the the oil pump drive rod going to stay on the oil pump, come out with the dizzy,or come off both &fall in the oil pan[not good!]?i wont do this untill i get advice on what might happen.thanks

It should stay on the oil pump. Makes it a little harder to put the distributor back on because you have to make sure the pump shaft goes back into the dist. shaft.
before you pull the dist. the best thing to do is to get your engine to TDC first, that way, if you happen to forget to mark everything, it's much easier to line back up. you want to mark the position of the dist, where the rotor is at TDC, and also where the rotor moves to after you pull it straight up. makes it much easier to get it back in right
i will mark both the rotor&dizzy base to make sure they both line up the way they were when i pulled it.i just wanted to make sure the darn oil pump shaft is going to stay put.thanks
there is a spring clip attached to the pump rod that prevents it from coming out of the distributor you have to yank really hard to move the clip you should be all right just do as the previous poster suggests bring number 1 up on compression stroke before you remove it it will be easier to reinstall
is the oil leaking down the back of the bell housing? if it is as on my 302 be prepared to pull the intake manifold rear seal is probably bad old cork. PS tightening will not help only make it worse.... sorry to be the bearer of negativity but it is doubtful that it is the distributor seal
When putting the dizzy back in, you might find it won't seat all the way. The The allen -shaped shaft might not line up right. I had to get a wrench and turn the motor just a little bit so it would line up and fall in.
thanks, but after looking at it again,im sure my intake is the problem with my oil leak.imgoing to tackle it this week&hope i dont break any intake bolts in the removal.that seems to be the big concern with this intake job.
