Truck is displaying a TBC fault, without a trailer. I havent towed in about 6 months. Anyway from researching seems it could be a bad TBC unit or something to do with the brake master cylinder. However, when i get the TBC fault, it appears only for a few seconds and then goes away, i dont have to reset the onboard dash display. Any ideas?
Drop the rear 7 & 4 way trailer plugs and see if any of the wires inside are corroded and shorted.
Yea i checked the plugs, they look real good. No corrosion at all.
Am i interpreting the other TBC fault threads correctly? It sounds like guys who get this fault have the fault code stay on their in dash display until they manual press the reset button, correct? Since my only stays for a few seconds leads me to believe it is some kind of short.
You DID remove the metal shell of the 7-way and look inside, right? If so, you're going to have to check the wiring along the frame rail all the way from back to front for a wear point.....

If your talking about the wiring harness plug that plugs into the 7way, yes i did.
When a TBC fault trips does it usually stay on dash until manually reset?
I had a TBC fault come up on my dash and it would be a few seconds after I starred pressing the brakes with nothing in tow. It ended up being that I had no break lights and it was the switch that is under the brake pedal
Wanted to give and update on this issue. There are two plugs that plug into the bottom of the brake master cylinder. When i was messing around in there changing my ebp sensor i knocked the plug loose, causing my tbc fault. Secured the plug, problem solved. Thanks for the replies.
Thanks so much for coming back and letting us know.... We have all done something to screw something up and it is admirable of you to admit fault. And it still does give us all a little more insight into what causes TCB faults!
