I will have a switch next to my dome override switch to power the camera on demand as well.
i did the same thing, after dark my led back up lights work great, and its nice not to have the camera monitor shining in your eyes when looking in the mirror.

I had the truck apart still saturday morning and needed to drive it for my brothers bachelor party so I just tapped the reverse light and ran it through the headliner with the video cable, worked fine. I didn't know the mirror undimmed or I would have looked for that wire, but I spent hours searching for the black with pink stripe wire in the harness and couldn't find it. I probed a bunch of other possible candidates but came up with dimp.
For the camera by far the easiest wires to tap are the hitch wiring, since it already runs to the direct area where you want your camera... unless you are one of those putting it up near the third brake light.
very happy with the camera and it came in handy hooking up my trailer this weekend, as well as parking in the city for the bachelor party.
