front tow hitch

Question for you guys what brand front tow hitch receiver can I get that will allow the factory fog lamps to stay in the same place. This would be for a 2005 diesel. Thanks in advance. Is there a reason I cannot down load any pictures?

Most will say NONE...

However check out this post...the poster really thought out of the box by simply FLIPPING the fog brackets...very ingenious.

Good luck,

I installed one about 2 years ago. Made in the USA by Curt manufacturing.

www.curtmfg.com

Didn't even have to take the bumper off. Won't work with a lift kit tho.

Will try to get pics to post.

Receiver comes out under license plate

I do not believe (could be wrong) that the Curt hitches will work on newer models due to how Ford changed around the "blocker beam" that is under the frame/bumper area...My recollection is the older models were slightly different under there...but could be wrong...it has been a while since I thought about this topic...plus it looks like Mike may have a 2003 and the OP a 2005...not sure...but I remember something about the Curt's not working on all models due to the blocker beam under there.

Thanx for clarifying.
I do have an 03.
The hitch goes on the 3 bolts under my bumper bracket.

I think Bion (housedad) swapped out his front spring hangers to the earlier model so he could mount the Curt under bumper hitch to his '05.

so for a 05 what one do you guys recommend I don,t mind messing with the install a little to mount the fog lights back on but dont have the time to fabricate anything. Gonna head out to the Outer Banks NC a couple times this summer and in the fall and would like to get a rod holder in that front hitch but really need the fogs around upstate NY where we live. Thanks for all the info this site is great!

The easiest thing to do since you are only going to be using this a couple of times per year is get a Bodiak Hitch which attaches to the factory tow hooks up front...check it out and it appears to only be $219 plus shipping.

Ford Excursion Front end receiver hitch - Bodiak

The second easiest thing to do is get the Curt (if it fits...don't think it does or better yet it didn't when I was doing my '05) since this one mounts BELOW the bumper area you don't need to mess with the fogs...while you lose ground clearance...with as much as the Ex has...it isn't a big deal.

The last easiest is to get the Draw-tite and install it and do the bracket FLIP as in the thread I posted previously.

Good luck,
Joe.
