01 excursion 7.3, no power to move when first started
Not sure if this is common on all or unique problem, but our excursion when first start has no power, or maybe not letting it transfer through the transmission to the wheels, but it won't even move itself. Like last night, it has set for less then 24 hours, was maybe around 50F out, I start it, put it drive give it throttle and just budge a little. We have had it for at least 4 years and I don't remember if it has always been like this, but has been for quite some time. Is that some safety measure factory programmed in it to protect the driveline/engine? After it has been run it doesn't do this.
Also when you leave it to idle, after a minute or so, the idle steps up, is this normal with other sd 7.3's?
It still does it. The warmer the air temp the less noticeable. Happens after sitting 8 hours or more. If it idles for 3-5 minutes it acts fine or after a 100 or 200 yards it will act normal. Its like if the fluid is below 60f after sitting 8 hours or more it acts like reduced power. You can floor it but acts like just feathering it to get going. Rpms don't race like it is slipping. We've owned it for 9 years or so but I don't remember if it was always like that or not. Currently has 154000 miles.
Sounds like injectors, have you ever have done a cylinder contribution test?
No. I don't have a tester. Never considered injectors. What would be the problem with them to cause this condition?
I'm not sure I could check them anyways because it has a check engine light on all the time and has for a number of years. I took it to a shop couple years ago, they work on powerstrokes and other diesels, and his, I think it was a snap on diagnostic hand held couldn't connect. Might be something wrong with the PCM. There might be a leaky injector cup also because if it sets like 8 hours or more it burns blue smoke for a minute, like out seeping on top of the Piston
i am surprised @Mark Kovalsky never replied after you answered his question, i was expecting him to say torque the valve body or Xyz is bleeding down.... me thinks it is in the trrsns/converter so was hoping mark could pin point it.
i have to believe after all these years you have checked the fluid level ?
do you have forscan ? check the fuse gor OBD power if you cant connect.
Its been happening quite some time. Doesn't matter weather or season
Cody had a thought as to why my Ex behaves in a similar fashion, and he had to adjust my tune accordingly. I can't remember what he told me (not surprising anymore) but maybe he'll have a thought.
i am surprised @Mark Kovalsky never replied after you answered his question,
I don't remember why I didn't answer this six years ago.

i think it's an engine problem. It could be the exhaust back pressure valve is stuck.
