I have a 64' F100 that originally had a 292 and three on the tree. I decided to try and do a 302 and T5 conversion. I am to the point where I need some suggestions about engine and transmission mounting. Does anyone know of a kit that would make my life easier? I have heard that since this truck has a solid front axle I have to offset the engine by 1.25" to avoid the original steering box, can anyone confirm that? Any information on this stuff or anything else having to do with this conversion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I believe Summit Racing has a couple of mounting kits that I've looked at. I got a 64 that I'm going to be putting a 302 in but I'm not quite at that point yet. Plus I'm pulling it out of a donor truck and am hoping I can use those same mounts.
Thanks, Ill check those mounts out and see if they will work for a 302. I was hoping I could find someone who has done this before and was smart enough to keep track of measurements as to where the crossmember has to be on the chassis. It may be that I can just mount it exactly where the y-block sat. I guess Ill just have to find out the hard way and give a try.
I can't see why you couldn't use the crossmember from the donor truck. That may be the easiest way to do it.....just measure the frame width first and maybe you will get lucky. If the frame width is different get out the welder and extened it. At least thats what I would do...
