Going to put a 302 in 64 f100, now has 226 or 223 , has three speed, will the 302 mount up the trany, what modifcations must be done to make this work. thanks wills 64
The 302 will not bolt up to your transmission, either a C4 auto or a T-5 five speed from a fox body mustang (85 to 92 I believe) is a good conversion, you have to take into consideration the rear end gearing as well, there is a lot of valuable info here on the FTE forum. I have seen some posts as to what motor mounts will work.
To mount a SBF you need a aftermarket engine cross member with engine mounts and a new transmission cross member to mount the new transmission.
All are available from a variety of aftermarket vendors.
I always recommend removal of the old transmission bell housing mount as it is not needed with he addition of the two new cross members. This also allows better exhaust routing and serviceability.
I'm looking at doing the same thing Wills 64, though I'm going EFI. I do recommend if you go with the 5-speed, use the tremec world class 5-speed. A bit more money, but the syncros are much better than the regular tremec 5-speed. I know this from previously owning a 1988 Fox Body GT.
