Have a 94 f150 351windsor I'm rebuilding with xe262h cam pacesetter headers 94 f150 5.0 maf swap .040 over dished hypereutectic pistons. Need a recommendation on a efi egr intake manifold setup. Looking at getting afr 185 58cc renegades what do y'all think will match with that?
Any "mustang style" intake and throttlebody.
Edelbrock, typhoon, trickflow Plenty to choose from.
The edelbrock truck intake isn't worth it. It apparently doesn't flow well enough for something with aftermarket heads.
And with the mustang setup, you can use the egr spacer and hook the egr back up. Either with a tube like the truck had, or if your heads have the smog ports, through the intake like the mustang.
Whatever you do do not get an Edelbrock truck intake.
A mustang style Edelbrock Performer or ProProducts Typhoon would be an good choice with the TrickFlow TFS-R 5.8 intake with a 75mm TB giving more future upgrade potential.
the tfs-r intake says no egr but i think the provisions are on the egr spacer right? also what cold air intake will i have to get since its not the twin throttle body?
Once you do maf swap you will have a single outlet from the airbox... Round hose to a round tb is easy.
Egr is in the spacer, just run a new pipe from exh to the egr valve from your truck that you put on the tb spacer.
Whats wrong with the Edelbrock truck intake? I'm planning on using this with my 5.8 conversion, when I get around to it. It looks like a tremendous improvement over the stock 5.8 truck intake. The same may not be true of the 5.0 truck intakes, since they are better than the 5.8 counterpart. I like that everything bolts on in the same location etc.
TexasGuy001, I've always wondered about everybody who says the Edelbrock intake isn't any good. Supposedly some guy back in 1894 said it wasn't any good when he installed it on his horse drawn carriage, so since then all the internet lore spreads the rumor around. All of this with no proof.
Do I believe Edelbrock, a major, reputable manufacturer, who says :" This manifold made 34 ft/lbs. more torque than stock on our test engine" or internet lore with no proof? I guess if you're going to wrap your truck to 8000rpm it won't be what you want. My truck sounds like it's going to expel all its internals by 4300rpm though.
Myself....well....I happen to have a brand new one sitting in the spare bedroom waiting for installation.
If you do not use anything better than a gt40 head, the edelbrock truck intake will be a great upgrade. If you use anything for an aftermarket head, it is proven to be a bottle neck in the setup. The runners are long and skinny to promote velocity and low end torque.
When you have a built motor or something with great flowing heads, the edelbrock truck intake becomes the bottleneck... Something you don't want. That's why when someone wants to build an impressive engine, we suggest against buying it. And if you get a typhoon intake, you save a few hundred dollars.
