I am going to rebuild my 351W this summer because she is smoking like crazy and when I am at it I would like to eliminate all the emissions equipment off of her. I want to get a new intake and was looking at this one. eBay Motors: PRO PRODUCTS 351-W 351W FORD TYPHOON INTAKE # 54023 (item 270366239849 end time Apr-28-09 12:13:57 PDT)
What do you guys think? I like that it is non egr. The only question I have is since the heads on my truck have the emissions port on the back is there anyway I can plug those ports? Thanks guys oh and what do you think about the intake?
I don't really care for square-bore intakes, but IIRC the Typhoon manifolds are pretty good. And I'm glad to see you're installing a dual-plane intake, and not a single-plane one like many mistakenly do in an attempt for more airflow.
On the EGR ports in the heads - 5/8" bolts is what you need, get a pair and trim them down to 1/2" length of the threaded part, then screw them in the ports. May have to chase the threads in the heads first tho, as carbon from the exhaust gases likes to build up there.
That ain't the EGR ports what you're talking about, those are the AIR ports. The EGR ports are in the middle of the heads, on the side towards the intake, but the intake will seal those when you install it. When removing emissions entirely, you need to close off boththe EGR and the AIR ports.
You can also cut off the crossover off on the AIR tube and flip the connecters over that bolt to the head. Just be sure to use a new gasket or it will leak. I have done this on two other projects because I couldnt find plugs large enough.
Dang it, you mean to tell me the smog ports on the small block heads are threaded? I am looking to eliminate those ports on my 460, but the tubes just slide in and are retained with a bolt down clamp.
just hear once that spark plugs work. just curious.want to know if it was b.s.
I don't have an SBF spark plug right now to compare, but given that spark plugs do take 5/8" socket and where the socket slips is about as fat as the threaded part, I could see it being possible. Then again, thereis the fact about the coarse thread:

Yessir, they are threaded - seeing how there ain't no such thing as lef or right bank head, they drill holes in both ends of the head and just plug the one that ends up at the front of the engine.
I think the 460 heads are the same in that they can be swapped side to side. The front holes on my heads have freeze plugs in them. I'm thinking of keeping the cross over tube on and just plugging it up.
So back to the EGR ports those are on the inside of the head all I have to do is put in the proper gasket and Ill be fine? I will obviously by using the new gasket because I am competely rebuilding the motor. And with the air ports in the back they are threaded so just thread something in and were good to go?
For the EGR port - the intake is what seals them off, not the gaskets, just get regular gaskets for a carbed engine and it'll be fine. The AIR ports - yes they are threaded, but they are not too deep, hence why I said cut the 5/8" bolts down to 1/2".
