I was trying to seal up a small windshield leak, and I noticed my windshield is kind of loose. In some parts of the windshield, I think I hear if flopping up and down an 1/8" when I hit bumps on a rough road.
Is this typical? Should I take my van to a professional to reseal the windshield, or is this something I can handle?
As for the seal, no it's not "normal" for it to be only partially sealed. It may be "common" for it to un-seal on these old trucks, but that's bad.
I had mine re-sealed by a company, ended up being $130ish a while back, but call around and get the best price by a real company. Unless you know someone in the biz, and can have them do it on the side.
Fun story:
I had the same problem you have with the window, but it was all along the bottom and was pretty bad. The window jumped off the seal when I hit bumps. (I also had some cracks so it needed to be replaced anyhow)
So I locked my keys in my pickup one day at work. It was a sunny day out so I called my friend who was nearby, asked him if he wanted to help me break into my truck...
So we did. Through the front windshield, LOL!!! We didn't have much for tools, 2 screwdrivers and a putty knife or something. Took about an hour, being careful.
Drove home with safety glasses on, as it's legal in WA to do just that! Hahaha what a fun adventure.
