Temp. Probe location
I am seeing temps on the guage up to about 235-240 when loaded (about 13,000 # on a decent grade at about 40 MPH) after all of the work has been done.
I have replaced the t-stat with the Ford variant
I have installed a new fan clutch, seems to be working, I can hear it somewhat.
Coolant system flushed and back flushed with cascade detergent, got some crud out, but I can see some corrosion in the top of the radiator when it is empty.
After all this work was done (today) I pulled the same grade and it was about 20* cooler than before but still seems warm to me.
My sensor is mounted in the lug on the top of the water pump, does this spot have hotter coolant than in the heads? The stock gauge reads low, I know they are crappy.
My concern is that I am towing tomorrow morning from Salt Lake to Vegas my Bronco, total weight is about 13,000 #.
Any thoughts? I am leaving early at 4:00 AM to beat as much heat as possible and I guess just take it easy, it seems to do just fine on flat or small grade, but once it get warm it takes a long time to cool down.
The highest I saw was 225 on a long grade. I drove by the temp and backed off when it got too high which wasn't as much as I had expected.
I do have an EGT and it never got over 1100. I tried to keep it under 1000, that worked well.
I averaged 12.3 MPG!
