Considering taking it to the dealer now. Thermostat is new. Water pump flows water fine. Not sure what to do next, and I am sort of up against a wall now in regards to time.
You could have debris between the coolers that you can't see. Mice like to build some elaborate nests in there...and they don't remove it when they're done. I'm thinking you may have an airflow problem or the inside of the radiator is plugged. I'm not a professional mechanic....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
You can still get flow, especially with an unobstructed discharge, while experiencing cavitation. The head pressure will be highly degraded though, meaning that it's ability to pump through obstructions is reduced.
Check your airflow over the radiator, and do a reverse flush on the radiator, possibly more of the cooling system - but be warned that when flushing it's not uncommon to clog the oil cooler and starve the EGR causing it to fail (although I have heard it suggested that the round EGR cooler which I would think you should have is less prone to failure.)

In that case we will take your advice That's one of the funniest things I ever heard in here
Thanks for all of the tips! I sprayed the radiator as best as i could. Taking it out for a drive in a little bit. Called my dealer and they said they would test for HG and EGR cooler failure... (Using pressure test and also vacuum?) And said they would do so for an hour of diag time - and they are only going to charge me 45 (half price.) considering having it checked just for peace of mind (if none of the 'major' things are bad,) or destruction of my good mood (in the case they find a head gasket or EGR cooler issue.)
Wife is going to do some ball chopping if it ends up being HG's or EGR cooler!
Even though the radiator didnt look like it had an airflow obstruction, I'm crossin my figngers that giving it a nice steady shot of water took care of it!

We wish you luck buddy!! Fan clutch, maybe? Did it get hotter when idling or driving below 30 mph?
Thanks!! Seems like it gets hotter as speed increases. Temps work their way back down to 210-215 or so at idle. Cruising at 60 mph for 15 miles. coolant temp was 219 and oil temp was 221.
No load and a/c was off. Diesel tech is taking the truck out now to test.
UGH. Worse than a EGR cooler, or even head gaskets. 99.9% sure heads are cracked. I didnt realize it.... But diesel is in the coolant. Pressure tested cooling system while driving. 4-5 psi at idle... Shoots up immediately when on the gas at all.
Fuel in the coolant basically seems to be a dead ringer for cracked heads.
. $1400 EACH from the parts counter. Are there other (lower priced) options out there?
Glad I paid the $45 diag fee instead of dropping the cash on a new water pump. Truck still drives, but we sure as hell cant tow the camper with it now. . FACK!
I don't have anything to suggest bt more question.
How can it be that fuel in coolant and the water level stay the same? Would it be higher than normal in the degas bottle?
Does your water level in the degas bottle fluctuate when the engine is hot and cold?
^^^^^ what he said, you would be gaining levels in the degas bottle.Does it smell like diesel ? I'm sure you would have smelled it when you changed the TSAT

I didnt notice any diesel/coolant separation durring the tstat change. When I sniffed the coolant in the bay at the dealer, it didnt REEK of diesel, but it didnt smell like normal coolant either. Definately didnt look like milkshake coolant (if it was oil and coolant mixed. Tech thought it smelled like diesel though.
Degas level was not over the full mark, and i havent added any coolant in the past 9 months (since I bought it.)
Wife wants it fixed and fixed right (after nearly having a stroke initially) - not sure what to do next. Trying to figure out worst case scenario at this point.
