My engine is toast (sounds like it spun a bearing). The engine is on it's way out of the truck while I source a replacement. Since I will be paying the labor to remove it, what (if any) mods should I consider? I wouldn't mind getting a few more ponies under the hood for the right price!

If my engine was out I would replace the body mounts on the front end, they get old and creak and to replace them you have to lift the body or the engine some to get the clearance. I would also address any rust issue you have on the supports around the engine.
Just go thru all the known issues with the motor. Exhaust manifold bolts, if you go headers you don't have to worry about them again. Maybe replace the IAC valve (not sure if that is the right name) , the thing that helps this motor idle. Water pump.
Replace the flexplate and upgrade the torque converter if you plan on towing. New Y pipe..
Is there any preventative for the spark plug threads ? Just to make sure no plugs come flying out.. one less thing to worry about.
As far as HP, more is nice but anytime you start adding this and adding that it usually opens up a can of worms.
