hey i have a 95 7.3l, im having issues with oil leaks where the oil filter screws on, i am using a motorcraft filter, and i have tried a napa filter as well. They both leak. Second problem is i have oil running down on the back of the drivers side head near the up pipe.
The leak at the filter could be an o-ring in the oil cooler leaking, and on the back of the head there is a large round plug that has an o-ring on it. These are two common places for oil leaks.
around the gasket on the filter, going to check the turbo pedistal in the am, noticed oil in the valley a few mins ago. how hard is it to change the plug on the back of the head? looked on riff raffs site and they say the plug is damm near imposible to remove.
I did mine but I had everything out of the way, trans, turbo, etc. I've read they are a pain to get to when its all together too. I've heard of people drilling a hole in the firewall to get to the plug.
If you have oil in the valley, you have a leak up front too, or possibly its your only one. Valley leaks usually run out the rear on the passengers side, there is a hole back there.
I'd look over your filter housing real close for a crack. I haven't seen it before, but I suppose its possible. Does the gasket tighten up even all the way around? It doesn't have a slight warp to it maybe? Just some thoughts.
