What would you guys suggest i do with my 76 460 that im putting in my 84 2wd long box with a c6 and 3:50 9 inch limited slip? The bottom end needs a complete gone through since its been sitting so what would u guys do for a mild street engine? And will snall block c6 internals bolt all in my big block casing?
Yes, small block C6 internal parts will interchange with a tall bolt patern C6. The most important thing to do with the 460 is get the pistons up to deck height. If you don't have a lot of money, get a '88-'93 FI piston set. They have a much smaller dish and will keep the compression at a reasonable ratio with D3 heads. You will also have to get the block's deck milled as close to zero as you can get it and get it balanced. Do a lot of work in the ex ports of the D3 heads you probably have. Grind the smog bump down and blend the seats in, mill them to 95cc and you will still have a motor that can run on 89 octane with a little distributor & carb. tuning.
What compression ratio would one expect out of the d3 and fuel injection pistons? Or is it cheaper buying a set of flat tops? What's a good distributor and ignition to buy for cheap money that will get th job done
If you aren't going to race it hard cast pistons will hold up fine. With the FI pistons you should end up somewhere around 9.2-9.5 depending on all things. The cost from a stock replacement FI piston set to a good set of forged is going to be (just off the top of my head) at least $250 or more. You would just have to shop around. Watch Ebay like a hawk, you never know if someone got stuck with a set they can't use.
You really can't select a cam untill you get your figures turned into facts. The best manifold is the Edelbrock air gap right behind that is the Weiand 8012.
So can you order just the fuel injected pistons, because the rebuild kit for a fuel injected 460 would be a lot different than one for the 76, u think a performer is the best intake for my build?
I've got a cupple sets of FI pistons over the years off ebay, payed $80 for one set, almost felt guilty . Personally I would only consider the air gap or the 8012 imo the Performer isn't much better than a stock manifold.
