How much engine/tranny info can I pull from the OBD?

I don't want to add a bunch of permanent gauges to my Ex but I almost always have my iPhone and iPad with me, especially when towing. I've been looking at a couple of different options but I can't really find a straight answer on how much can actually be pulled from the ODB about current engine and transmission conditions on a 2002 V10. There is the Kiwi and the Dashboss and others including cheapos on eBay/Amazon.

Can anyone help shed any light?

Well the scan gauge 2 runs off of the OBD connection and that dislays oil pressure and temp, trans fluid temp, engine coolant temp, engine RPM,and more just cant think of all right now. You could look up scan gauge 2 and see what it all displays from the OBD connection.

Major bummer - the '02 doesn't have the pins available to make the Dashboss useful.

Ken at Dashboss was great at helping me establish whether or not it would work. Frustrating but oh well. Will I be limited with the SGII as well?

No oil pressure or temp on the v10 obd readings.
It does show trans temp. coolant temp.
I use torque on android. Great app.

Torque is a GREAT app....

I am curious what "gauges" everyone displays on their device to monitor the engine?
I am not sure that I saw/ or got trans temp??? That's what I really need to see while towing.

oil temp won't work on a v10 but trans temp will.
You have to go into the settings and add the Ford specific pid's

That's normal, there are a ton that don't work.
Check your adapter settings to make sure you have no errors. it reports errors.

Has anyone been successful in getting trans temp to work on a V10? My stock setting match the PIDs listed, but still nothing.
(using Scantool MX)

I have had the scan gauge ii for awhile now. Used it n my 2000 Expedition and now use it on my 01 Excursion. It displays trans temp with no issues. This is important for towing. My opinion is there are enough distractions while driving and the ones that use your phone are a huge distraction. The scan gauge is very simple and it does an excellent job. I have had no problems at all. Easy to set up, easy to use.

Yes, with torque pro. Need to add the Ford extended PID's in the settings.
Works flawlessly
