I would check fuel pressure and flow rate, mine acted like it was running out of gas at anything more than 3,000 RPM and that was because of a restriction in fuel flow from the rear tank (had the wrong sending unit assembly back there, one that had a pump on it but the pump wasn't hooked up electrically).

check the carb.
the jets on the 2 barrel carb set on the btm and water and other bad things get in the jets sometimes. check and see if squirters are working properly also. good luck. sometimes the factory fuel filter just clog up and need a new one. many things possible with with trash in fuel.
