my tanks went bad... so i took out two.. put one in and connected the other hoses in the back where the other tank was... the truck ran fine for about 4 months.. then i had fuel pump problems... the new fuel pump worked for about 2 months and then it went out... i thought this might have been due to a clogged carb or something.. so i replaced both of those fuel pump and the carb.. (carb needed to be replaced anyways) i can spray starting fuel down the carb and the truck runs fine... but she wont pump anything even with the new pump... i can suck gas out of the line i stick into the carb though... could this be a bad sending unit.. i just found out today i have to replace all the rubber lines because i can see rubber particles in the clear fuel filter... so should i replace the sending unit and about how much will that cost me? if you guys need more information about my problem just ask...
Pull the sending units and check the filter screen. My guess is they are not there anymore and are rolling around in your tank. When I pulled my tank the sending uit filter as missing and the float was cracked. I dumped the tank and found the filter and misc. other items. Was very strange. Anyway, Ford wanted $135.00 for a new sending unit. Broncograveyard.com have them for $60.00 I think. I just started calling the auto parts stores and found a CarQuest that had the new filter and float and it ended up costing me about $30.00 to fix the problems. If the filter is missing then whatever sediment and other junk that is floting around in your tank is getting sucked up through the fuel pump and after a while it is going to trash the pump. Hope this helps.
Kider,
I don't mean to be rude but.... could you please type your explanation better. I could barely understand your post. Let me see if i can summarize.
1. You had dual tanks: They were bad? You replaced them with an aft tank?
2. You had a bad fuel pump. You replace it.
3. You replaced your carb for the hell of it?
4. Your truck won't run; You can see junk in the filter. You can suck fuel through the line.
Can you turn the motor over and get fuel to squirt through the line? If not, your fuel pump cam has come loose and is not pumping, the pump. Could this be possible?

sorry for the confusing post. I was kinda tired last night when i posted. my truck wont run. If i Spray carb cleaner down the carb it runs fine. My carb was messed up. It would stick and it wouldnt idle right and sometimes my throttle would get stuck so then i have cruise control you know what i mean, thats why i replaced it. My Gas tanks rusted out, that was my very first problem. so i took out both tanks and replaced the one on the drivers side door, removed the rear tank and just put the lines back there together so i wasnt dripping gas everywhere this worked great for about 4 or 5 months. I can suck gas through the filter and its filled with rubber particles so i have to replace the lines. i do this from the line that gets plugged into the carb. then my pump went out. so i replaced it. truck ran good for about 2 months. now my new pump doesnt want to pump at all. im thinking its either because my sending unit is busted, or my pump isnt getting hit by the cam. another option i might have is just to install a electrical fuel pump. anyways thanks for your replys in advance.
I am thinking that you may have a bad line near the rear that is letting air suck into the fuel line and keeping fuel from being sucked out of the tank.
If you remove the fuel line from the frame to the pump, do you get a steady stream of gas? if so, then put a clear filter in that line, replace the pump again and see if you are sucking a bunch of trash into the pump and killing it.
Also, loosen the fuel pump mounting bolts, and bump the engine over and see if the pump moves. It should.
