1955 ford 2 door sedan in fairlane trim , a pink and white 56 crown vic skyliner , then a 63 pontiac grand prix with a 389 and a four speed , then a 66 buick special 2 door , then a 64 impala super sport .................... i can go on forever about my old rides , and the number is in excess of 100 ! but the 55 fairlane was my first .............
69 Firebird convertible.......400 4v Ram Air, turbo 400, AC, all the bells and whistles, deep metallic green with black top..........Beautiful car to look at......
A real PITA for a 16yr old kid to afford to keep running.
My first was a '78 Chevy Scottsdale "Heavy Half" pickup. Nothing fancy - it had the 350/350 combo and dual side-mounted gas tanks which were a pain to fill as the filler necks were not on the same side...
I traded it straight across for a 67 Mustang fastback GT, 4spd 289 4v hi-po.........actually faster and far more reliable than the old Firebird.
Man, I wish I had both sitting in my shop today.......sigh
Yeah, retirement fund enhancers.
My 67 GTX 440/4 speed convertible, in really pristine condition, would have seen 75-80k at the height of the market. Radio delete, bench seat, dog dish hubcaps...pure business. I pulled the wheels in favor of Cragar SS's and tossed the rims and caps. Of course added a radio further lowering its value but not at the time.

We must be the same age........I remember these cars when they were plentiful, unrestored and cheap.
There must have been 25 muscle car classics that we would kill for in "runner" shape being driven by HS kids in the parking lot of my HS.
There must have been at least 4 Olds 442's there alone.
Got a couple of years on you but close...graduated class of 78. The parking lot at Gordon Tech in todays terms was worth millions. We had one of the best auto shops in the city (catholic hs) and we were able to work on the cars at school.
I remember the drag races too........Just off campus, on a side street with no houses.
Yeah, the thrill of victory..........the agony and torment of defeat.

That's me. All the mom & pop car lots of the day were full of these things. It's insane to think of all these I drove past on a daily basis that were sitting in a small used car lot that could be had for less than a thousand dollars. Paid $500 for my Mustang.
My first car ,53 Pontiac Catalina 2 door hard top , straight 8 , powerglide ( not a hydro ) Still own . Got it from a family member , still love it after all these years . Miss my 67 Galaxy , and 65 Bellaire . Miss my 73 Super Beetle the most though . 408k when I sold her .
our high school parking lot was 60's chevelles, mustangs, and road runners.
with a few 302 Z-28's and 55-56-57 chevys, an couple of hot rod novas all owned by the rich kids
all the rest were farm pickup trucks, and my 49 international L-190
my first was a gutless nutless 85 Chevrolet S10 Blazer with overdrive automatic and a 2.5L TBI 4 cylinder damn thing Tossed a piston out the side of the block at 80,000 original miles. What I consider my 1st car was my 1976 Ford Maverick I named the "Old Man" had a 200Cid Straight 6 with Carter 1 barrel and 3 on the tree it had 250,000 miles on it when I bought it for $350 I tried everything I could think of to blow that thing up at the time wanting another GM that Maverick sold me I saw that car go through things it should have just rolled over and died from
First car was a crappy Chrysler Laser. I hated it, and ironically my older sister hated her vehicle.
Sooooo, I sold my car, my old man worked out a deal and I ended up with my sisters ride, a '78 Bronco. I had that for about 2-3 years, put a fresh interior in it, did some motor work and a mild lift/tires....and reluctantly sold it. I didn't realize at the time the gold mine I was driving and have regretted selling it since (been about 15 years now). Someday I'll have another one, great vehicle to learn the ins and outs of car care on.
