Hi everyone. Always helpful to scan the forums for help with our 2 Ford squads. Yesterday, during a trip the 2001 felt like it stumbled while coming to a stop. This triggered the CEL. While at idle, the light went out. While returning, this happened a couple more times. We stopped at our local mechanic and they ran the scan tool. It pulled code P 1280, no other codes. Told us it may be the ICP sensor. They are helpful, but don't work on diesel, so we have to take it to a dealer. Today it starts up and had an uneven idle for a few seconds then went to normal. Next available day they might get in in at Ford is a full week from now. Just wondered what some of you guys thought. Thanks for all the info on here.
This code often means the ICP is no good, or the connection has been removed.
The sensor is located on the drivers side head at the front of the engine. Inspect the plug to ensure it is fully connected. Inspect the wiring. Next unplug the sensor and inspect the contacts for oil. The presence of oil indicates a faulty ICP sensor and means it should be replaced.
Next plug the sensor back in and start the engine. Unplug the sensor with the engine running. Does the engine change how it is running?
Unplugging a working ICP sensor will cause the PCM to revert to a default value of for ICP. This will cause the engine to run a little rougher and louder, but run just fine. Some people run with the ICP unplugged until they get a new one.
Inversely, unplugging a non-working ICP sensor will cause no because the PCM has already reverted to a default setting.
Thanks for the info. Probably won't mess with it unless something happens to the other squad. Appointment at dealership on May 8. If you guys catch this post again, I assume its safe to drive to the shp? Its about a 25 minute drive. Just making sure we don't cause further damage if we have to move it.
