I sent in my first oil test. Here are the results. I was pleasently surprised that it came back pretty good for what I can tell. With the miles and the abuse she has seen from the PO I expected worse. The oil type is Rotella T6 5/40 synthetic. I don't really know what I'm looking for but the comments sound good. Anyone know anything more about what I am seeing on my report? Thanks.
Nothing in the report jumps out at me in the mineral content. The only thing that causes me concern is why you had to add 2qts in only 4000 miles. Are you burning oil? Rotella T6 is good for many more miles than 4000. In fact I wouldnt have even sent in the report until 5 or 10,000. But seeing as it is your first thats okay to get a bench mark.
I was getting a bit of white smoke at cold (below 30) startup after I got my 200/30 injectors. After tweaking the tunes and a Swamps moded IDM it has all cleared up. My truck has always used oil since I got it 70k ago. It gets 16 mpg hand calk in town and country roads stop and go in small towns, 19 on long hwy trips. Mabe that's why I got it for 7k, more than two years ago, which is cheap by me. Only smoke on acceleration is if I get on it hard in my Drag tune, and that's BLACK smoke.
Its nice to still get that kind of mpg with those sticks. That gives you both worlds, you can play and then you can drive. Have you tryed the Rotella T 15-40 to see if you use less oil? When I went from dino to Rotella T I don't add any oil any more between changes.
I just changed back to Dino, 15/40 Dello 400 LE. I run synthetic in winter and Dino in the summer. I used Rotella only, 15/40 Dino in summer 5/40 Synthetic winter, for the entire time I owned the truck. I'm trying something different this time to see if there is a change. I do drive like an old man most of the time so that helps with the mileage.
My MolyB was really low, too (like 3-5). Anybody know where exactly that originates from? I'm drawing a blank trying to figure that one out. I'd wonder about the magnesium in your sample as well.
What is your opinion of that Swamps IDM? I think that is my next mod if I get some good first hand experiences from others here on FTE.
I take it the molybdenum isn't bad, just above average? I just looked at my last report and it showed 3.
The amount of moly in the oil is deemed by the manufacturer. It is used as a protectant for the engine components. If fills small holes and scores in the metal to provide for smooth mating surfaces.
hi
moly is a anti wear additive. its a goo thing but there are other additives that are effective too.
sodium could be in the formulation of the oil but also, it can mean a minute coolant leak especially with potassium. i would keep an eye on lead and copper amounts in that case.
