Programming problem with my fobs.

My 2000 expo is seldom used so about 2 months ago the battery went completely dead. I got it charged up and running but never used the fobs.
Tried my remote start the other day, got nothing. Changed the batteries in both fobs, still nothing.

Tried the reprogramming it seemed to go into programming mode but I was not sure because of the autolock feature continually locking/unlocking at every key turn. I tried 4 factory fobs 2 of which worked on another car. So I tried deactivating the auto lock, Got the same thing ,correct horn chips but nothing changed. Yes I did unhook the battery over night. I found in the manual that the auto lock could be shut off with the keypad. Followed the instructions and it should have worked but did not. Any reprogramming is not being saved.

I do think the fobs need to be reprogrammed but something is not allowing any reprogramming to work.

Everything hardwired works. So if the autolock could be shutoff the fobs could be fixed, I think.

Any ideas?

Maybe the remote has control of the door locks, negating the PATS function? Just my SWAG.
