Vacuume pump pulley removal

I am trying to remove and replace my vaccume pump. Two of the bolts are siezed and I can not brake them loose. Thought if I pulled the pulley off I would have better access to them to brake them lose but can't figure out where I should put my two arm puller. Does it go on the small flange around the actuall shaft or on the outer rim of the pulley? I was going to just remove the pump and take it to a shop and have them press it off and put it on the new one but I can't even turn the one bolt that I have loose out all the way because it hits the pulley. Very frustrated!

If the pulley has a groove around the front just like the power steering pulley does, then you need a special puller to get it off without bending the pulley. Autozone will rent you one.

Autozone and many parts houses will pull the pulley and reinstall it on the new pump if you buy the pump at their store.

Power steering pulley puller, about 20 bucks at Autozone or Advance Auto.
Check the puller before you buy it though, the vacuum pump pulley is a bit more concave than the power steering pulley, some pullers will not fit right.

A two jaw or three jaw puller will bend the pulley, and then you have no way to reinstall on the new one.

Here is a link to what you need.

Nice. Now I know what to do. The Oreilley puller is what Dave described, perfect for power steering, not a fit for the vacuum pump (although its less than a millimeter difference!).

Going to autozone tomorrow!

Are you having trouble getting the steel ring over the split collar?
I remember it being very tight and having to get the collar 'just right' and having to whack the ring with a hammer to get it around the collar.

Mine was in a vise. not on an installed pump.
