Question lower coolant leak

I found a leak on my lower coolant hose flange connected at the water pump. it really leaks after a long drive and under pressure. For those of you who have replace this should the flange itself be replace also or just the o ring (i think that's whats in there)? I changed out the t stat last fall and put on a new flange and all it good. Also I should only need to drain the fluid down to the level just below the pump hose that's leaking i hope. any of you guys have the Ford part #'s ? thanks jeff

IIRC there is a gasket with the flange. When I flushed my system and replaced the hoses when I bought the truck, I paid the $30 or so for a new flange. Considering what could happen if it fails I figured it was a worthwhile investment.

Make sure you get the correct flange since there are a staight one and a 90 degree bend. Don't trust what the auto parts store or dealer tells you. Look at what you have and make sure you get that.

Change the o-ring and it will be fine.

Take it apart, clean everything in there very well, get the "o" ring seal for the T-STAT-it is slightly thicker, use some NAPA Sil-Glyde or Plumbers lube on the seal when installing, thats what I did at this suggestion a while back and it has been drip free ever since!

You need to go to ford to get it or riffraff. It's 5.00 but it's a bevel cut gasket between the neck and pump. If your coolant has some years on it it's a good time to change that too.

Bought my 'square' o-ring at the auto parts store down the street. Not a 'special' order part.

I'm confused, are we talking about the Tstat housing? If so, I've replaced three on 3 different trucks with a square cross sectioned oring and have never had one start leaking after that. Others seam to have issues with getting a seal.

I always get the oring with a new tstat at oreillys, and get a wire wheel or wire brush on that housing to knock off any rust. If need be replace the housing with the cheap replacement from oreillys or the billet replacement from dieselsite I think.

If its the lower connection, idk.

This is what I was looking at.

I found a leak on my lower coolant hose flange connected at the water pump.

Yeah that's what was confusing. I guess it's the lower connection of the upper hose and not the lower hose.
