Question Do I need new injectors?

Guys, I have been searching the forum trying to educate myself but I'm just learning how much I don't know.
I think I need new injectors... why?

1. I have almost 300k on the factory sticks
2. Got a load of BAD BAD BAD fuel
3. Run out of fuel once (darn lie-o-meter!)
4. Mileage is slowly dropping
5. I'm getting more soot on the exhaust side of the truck

The glow plugs need replaced as they are factory units too. I have the plugs but don't want to go into the engine but once. I think stock injectors would work just fine but what do you guys think? This is a work truck; I tow some but not all the time. I have solved the #8 injector problem (see mods) so would stock injectors be alright on all 8 cylinders? Would an upgrade be worth it? I want to save money but quality/reliability is FAR more important to me.
Opinions? Thanks!

If you only want to go in once then get some new injectors. 300K is up there for stock injectors. An upgrade to single shots could be worth it but you will need tuning to run them. Otherwise get some new stock splits and be done. While you are under the VC carefully check the harness. If it were me I would replace both of them while you are there. If you go with singles and tuning you are going to love the power upgrade, maybe too much . Singles will be just as reliable as splits with the proper tuning so don`t worry about that. Basically it comes down to how much $$$ is falling out of your pockets.

Stock splits it is then... (I have a motorcycle so I know about liking power too much!) Bean's or RiffRaff list these as stock or will I know what it is that I'm ordering? Dealer is out of the question.

I had the same issue back in October 2011, I two bad batches of fuel (non-consecutively) I had to run through, but after awhile I noticed mileage and power dropping even with a chip.

Stock splits were appealing, but I wanted to replace the stock sticks with something better, AC code injectors/Stage I injectors. I did so October 2011 and have no regrets other than the tuner I used. (Jumped ship and went to Gearhead)

Better mileage, better power, and are less oil hungry than the splits. They don't make too much more noise than the splits either. So if it were me, that's what I'd do. Cost difference isn't that much either...

What other then what you have posted makes you think sticks and glow plugs need to be replaced? Are you having cold start issues? Anything performance related? Etc.

Check your up pipes too. The gasket where they go into the collector has a tendency to leak, causing smoke, soot, and poor mileage.

Here is a thread with a lot of good info to diagnose your truck to see if you need injectors and plugs.

Of course if you just want new sticks and plugs I can certainly understand. single shot would improve fuel mileage over split shot but you have to have tuning for them to work, you can have a modified stock tune flashed onto your pcm, same as stock but set to run the single shot injectors.

He's probably like me and his glowplugs were/are 12 years old and had alot of miles like mine did (Over 300K and engine was built September 2000). I replaced them shortly before the Winter of 2012 for peace of mind since some of them looked a little crusty and needed to be replaced when I did my Injectors October 2011.

300K? You got your money's worth. Dependability? Yeah... stage 1 and a PCM flash or stockers... whichever works for you. Stage 1s can save a little fuel, but you risk failing an emission test... if you deal with those. It's entirely possible you just have an exhaust/boost leak... giving you the symptoms you describe here. You can look at those last few links in my signature to do some troubleshooting.

Here is the link to stock Alliant injectors through Clay.
Riffraff Diesel: New Alliant Stock Injectors

Unless you plan to spend some coin on the tuning, stick with the split shots if they have worked for you so far.

Mileage is down. Most of my thinking has been mileage/time on stock parts. Cold start has been a problem... below 40f, you can bet it needed to be plugged in.

I'm also looking for a good shop to do the work. I could do all of it myself due to all the EXCELLENT write ups here at FTE. BUT... here's what's going on at my house in a nutshell.
1. Have 3 teenagers in the house and the youngest [I]might[I] get DSS called on her for her own protection.
2. Mom-in-law's cancer is back, she's getting treatments.
3. Favorite cousin has same cancer and is doing same treatments.
4. I'm the administrator of my Mom's estate as well as my sister's estate.
5. Might as well be the admin of step-dad's estate too as his daughter has no clue of what's she's doing and I'm helping her.
6. Summer's here, time to cut grass at home and all rental properties.
7. Did I mention teenagers?

So... anybody know of a good shop in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area? I found Rudy's Diesel in Durham online but don't know anything about them.
