Key-In Ignition Buzzer Modification
Not exactly. I like many others in my family turn the radio on in my truck when I'm cleaning it or working on it. Only problem is if I leave the door open it buzzes at me. My proposed solution? A relay.
My plan is to install a NC (Normally Closed) relay between the wire that power the key in ignition buzzer. The signal wire will then be spliced off of my radio, so whhen the igntiion is in any position which supplies power to the accesories, the buzzer will be disabled, Sounds Simple, so well see how it pans out.
My guesstimated plan of supplies is as follows:
1 12vdc Normally Closed SPST (SPDT will work as these are hard to find for me)
About 2 feet of small gauge wire
Heat shrink tubing
Wire crimpers
And a screwdriver
I hope to post some pics and a walkthrough when the relay arrives!

. I just figured I would post this that way anybody else who had the same problem as me can see how I fixed it.
I needed the headlight warning feature also, so I went to Radio Shack and got their little 12v buzzer they sell, and a small diode, and hooked the buzzer between the keyswitch on power, and the running light power.
When the key is on and the running lights are on, there is 12v on both sides of the buzzer, and it doesn't buzz.
When the key is on and the lights are off, there is 12v on one side, but the diode is positioned to block the current in that direction.
When the lights are on and the key is off, then there is 12v on one side of the buzzer, and the diode lets the current through in this direction, and it find s a ground through one of the circuits in the key-on section of the fuse box.
Works pretty good. I can't take credit for it though. I picked the idea up from somewhere.
