I've already posted in the Ranger form but have not had any replies as of yet so thought I would just post here since master cylinders are similar vehicle to vehicle what are the chances of buying two brand new master cylinders and both being bad on a 99 Ford Ranger I have bench bled and bled to all four wheels and still the pedal goes to floor I am at a loss except to go get another master cylinder any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
Actually the more I think about it, it must be the rear ABS valve on the fender. The reason for changing the master cylinder in the first place was the original one was leaking but the breaks worked fine. The rear drums are properly adjusted and just put new rotors and pads on the front. I just want to get the problem solved.
M-chan thanks for the reply, this is the RABS if I am not mistaken. But if I have all the air out of the system why would the pedal go to the floor. Is there a way to test this.
Does this truck have RABS or 4WABS? If it has RABS, I have replaced more than my share of RABS valves for the exact symptom you describe.
M-chan68, can you elaborate on this? I'm all set to change a master cylinder for the same issue in a 4WD F-350, and then I searched and found this info from you... and your suggestions are always correct, so now I'm thinking it might not be the master cylinder?
Thanks,
Ed

you dont have a rabs valve.
for the op im with mike on this
If I do not have a RABS valve what is the part I posted a picture of. The part is discontinued and I believe it is my problem. I purchased one at a junk yard and now the brakes work better but are still not right. do I continue to buy junk yard ones until I find one that works or are there other options out there that I am not aware of. Thanks for the help.
snoridad, sorry to chime in late. The picture you posted IS the RABS valve. The part number you listed I'm guessing is XL5Z-2B373-AARM. To retrieve codes on these systems requires disconnecting a single wire connection and grounding out the other end of the wire if I recall correctly, and then turning the ignition to the RUN position to count the flashes of the brake light to obtain the two digit trouble code, NOT connecting a scan tool to the OBD 2 port like you would on a 4WABS system.
Thank you for replying. This is my sons truck and I am trying to get him back on the road again. There are four wires going to this valve which one do I disconnect. I would just purchase a new part but I have searched high and low and can not find one anywhere. I am not big on parts like this from a junk yard due to safety concerns. What does ford do when someone brings one of these in and it needs to be replaced.
the dont have one is for the reply that I quoted. like I said op please listen to mike I suspect he is right. its a common knowen concern.
Ok I understand a abealex does not have one. But I do and that valve is not available anywhere but from a junk yard can either you or mchan tell me what ford would do if I was to bring it in for repair if they can't get a replacement part thanks for replying
Have you attempted to source one out from the aftermarket, or at least sending your old one to a rebuilder? Tousley Ford maybe? By the way, that is a pricey part.

I have tried toulsey and two other dealerships. Ford parts giant showed they had them so I placed an order but got an email that night saying they were no longer available any that my order was canceled. They were Rt he only place I could find that even listed the part and it was going to cost 480.00 to get it to my door. Have not been able to find any place that rebuilds them either I took original apart and it was very nasty inside so cleaned it up good and put it back on but did not work I am thinking about trying to clean the junk yard one that work part time and see what happens I just want it fixed right don't like used brake parts
