Thanks cheezit galipin ford might be able to get one from the east coast. ford obsolete sent me to green sales company but they say they are closed but the hours on the phone say they are open so do not know what to think. But at least I might have a line on one.
Well I have given up on finding a new RABS valve. I am going to disassemble the junk yard one and see if I can get it to work and if that does not work I am going to install a adjustable proportioning valve and call it good. Just for grins I might take it to the dealership and ask them what they would do if I gave it to them to fix. Thanks for all the replies even though it is not a 6.0.
That's crazy???!!! Does that mean the truck is totaled if a junkyard doesn't pan out? If so,, kinda sounds like an 84 f150 I had that the clutch master cylinder rusted off the firewall. Had to get creative to get the truck back on the road. Is there a fix besides a used part?? Delete the rear brakes?!?!
Thanks Bismic but that is the wrong part number. Although it looks the same I am told it is not. I have found a couple like that one was for a ford van etc. It just does not make sense. I have called a couple of places that rebuild these valves but they do not rebuild the one I need. But again I do appreciate the replies.
Bismic I have thought about trying that valve or one similar but if it does not work I am out 200.00. I have tried LKQ and Ford obsolete=Green sales company but they do not answer there phone. I would pay the 200 if I new it would work even if I had to rewire the connector although they look the same.
Snoring dad, is Lopers performance center still open, back in the day they were the place to go for everything or they could direct you to one of there best
Mark tickled me with an email as I have not been on the forums for a few weeks.
This was the upgraded RABS valve that had a faster action and if memory serves did away with a rear-proportioning valve as well. The earlier design was very problematic for generating a long pedal, this one not as much.
1999 was a crossover year for the Ranger ABS system options, getting away from this system. I think you may have better luck looking for a 1998 version as many catalogs may have been written that this design did not exist. Just quickly looking many aftermarket sources show the ’98 valve available, which may include stores like Autozone, O-Riley’s and Advance. These types of stores may carry the Cardone version, part number 12-2029. I’d try to see if any store has one in stock and bring your old one to see if the connector is the exact same. The next variable would be the line nut threads.
If they are not the same, you have a problem. Your only solution may be going a decade backwards in technology and using a adjustable proportioning valve in place of the RABS unit to reduce the rear brake pressure so high deceleration stops can be made without rear wheel skidding.
Secondarily, there have been a lot of poorly made master cylinders making it into the retail auto parts stores lately. I've seen some people go through more then one new M/C to get one that works.
Thanks for the info Jack. Also, thanks for the tip on the BriteBox a month or so ago. I have it out, but haven't taken it apart yet - things are pretty busy at work and home!
