I'd guess exhaust leak. Check the manifolds for cracks and/or broken exhaust studs. Mine leaks around the cat on the pass side.

Twenty bucks says the retaining nut that holds the EGR tube onto the driver's side manifold has rusted off. Take a flashlight and look carefully. You'll probably see a gap between the nipple on the manifold and the base of the tube where the nut used to be. It's not an easy fix. The correct way is to buy a complete new EGR tube and pray that the threads on the manifold are still good enough for the new tube/nut. We welded the tube to the manifold on mine, and so far so good almost 10 or 12 months later. That clicking drove me insane before I fixed it.

So you're saying a broken EGR tube on the driver's side will cause a ticking sound on the passenger side? Guess again.
