egr tube nut

I just removed my exhaust manifold and need to find a new nut that holds the egr tube to the ex. manifold on the drivers side of my '97 f-150 4.6l. I've tried the dealer and I don't want to replace the whole tube which is fine, any help would be appreciated.

Are you asking for the threaded part attached to the tube, or the adapter that screws into the manifold and the tube treads into it?

If it's attached to the tube, you need a new tube.

you have to replace the tube there's no way to get the new nut on cuz it's place on the tube before the ends are flared.

I planned on cutting the tube, placing the new nut on and sleeving the two pieces with a larger diameter tube...however I'm just going to wrap muffler patch over what's left of the nut and clamp it together...or j-b weld it

ya, the whole idea of shortening the tube by cutting it just doesn't sound good. jb weld works wonders, and you can but some of the exhaust tape over that.

I recommend a junk yard, you're probably not going to find anyone that sells just the nut, especially one this large.....

I just had to deal with this on my Mustang during a head swap. I broke the tube off where it meets the header. What I did was get some 1/2" or 5/8" flexible copper and put the old nuts back on and flared it. I had to use some Copper RTV to seal everything up perfectly, but it worked quite well. You might be able to find a replacement nut at the hardware store and then get some copper pipe and a flare tool.

That's a pretty good sized flare....The tube on my truck is near 3/4" or more....FYI I just pulled a 4.2L I have a couple of these fabled nuts...

Hmm, if is that big you might have some problems. I believe you can get flexible copper in that size. Then I would get something bullet shaped that is large enough and heat the copper and hammer a flare into it. You'll need to use the RTV or something to seal it up though. At that point it might be worth looking into buying a new tube though.

I'll remember that web site for next time. I threaded what was left of the nut back on & J B welded it with a ss hose clamp over it. Thanks for all your help with the exhaust manifold removal , I did weld a nut on the stud and they all came out easily...wish I knew that trick years ago!
