I have a 98 F150 XLT 4.6 that had the infamous manifold leaks. On the driver side, the manifold was leaking where the exhaust hooked on. The passenger side had tow nuts broken off in the rear near the fire wall and was leaking.
My freind works at a garage and was off saturday and we used the lift at his work and tackled both sides.
I decided to replace both manifolds and all the studs. The only problem we encountred was the egr tube nipple that hooks into the manifold. We could not get it broke loose so we decided to replace the tube. All the studs came right out, most came with the rusted nuts. We had to extract just two and they came out in minutes.
The whole job cost:
$180 both manifolds + gaskets(Auto Supermarket)
$24 for studs ( AutoZone)
$55 for egr tube ( Ford Stealership)
- case of beer for my buddy!!!
The whole job took 4 hours
Freinds boss didnt want nothing.......just his cost on the parts.
I think I solved a major headache with very little cost and trouble...actually it was fun!!!
Even my catback exhaust sytem sound more throatier now!!!
