1998 Expedition Alarm problems
Hi guys,
I hope someone can help. Is there a way to bypass/disconnect/deactivate the alarm I believe it was factory installed? There is a problem with the alarm. I have had this truck since 1999 and 25k it now has 159k. I just use the truck to tow my hot balloon trailer. It has been a crazy winter and I have not flown so the truck has just sat.
When I get in I need to hit the unlock button disarm the antitheft it will chirp and then you can start the truck. Now I hit the unlock I hear the chirp then nothing.
The battery is charged, I have taken the battery cables off and put them on again. Usually when I do that the alarm will go off. Now it will not. The alarm automatically but not disarm so you can start the truck.

No you cannot bypass the factory system, it is too integrated into the electrical system.
Are to positive it's the alarm system that is keeping the truck from starting? To me if the unlock button gives you the confirmation chirp, then the system is disarmed and you might instead be facing something else like a bad starter for example.

No, an everyday type code reader will not help you at all. The $3000 reader the dealer has will because with theirs for testing they can turn things on and off that are otherwise automatically controlled.
For tracing the problem you will need a factory wiring diagram.
If you have a second key, have you tried it instead?
