So I just joined the site, not sure why it took me so long. I have done a number of different things to try to resolve my trucks issues. First the problem is that it is really hard to start if it starts at all. I have done the FICM voltage test, changed my fuel filters, replaced my batteries and one negative cable (it was on its last leg) I've even tried just plugging it into the wall socket to see if it would help. It's a 2004 6.0 with about 97.000 on it. I haven't checked the GP's yet but I'm replacing them soon, as well as the ICP and pig tail. Any advice is greatly appreciated
What were your FICM volatges KOEO and cranking? Do you have any gauges that read live data like scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS or torque for android? They are an absolute must have and are required for diagnosing these trucks? Do you have any DTC's ?
Brett is right what was your Ficm vlts, below 45 is failing fast you need 48,all the time ,how old is your batteries and did you change them both at the same time. You can try unplugging the ICP senser to see if it fires up and do the wiggle test when running that will tell you if the pig tail is needed, pull the IPR valve and look at the screen? its in the back behind the ficm and turbo.
Brett, both voltages are good and I don't have any scan gauges but I am about to download the app that I now know about it.
04badford, just replaced both batteries on Monday, and what am I looking/listening for on the wiggle test, I will assume that I do that with it plugged in not unplugged correct?
I have a video on this. Sounds like a High Pressure Oil Problem to me. Get the blue bluetooth ELM327 OBD2 dongle on ebay($10-$15) and Torque pro (yes you need the pro version as it has all of the equations already programmed in)
I'm going to go ahead and order the upgraded dummy plugs, has anybody had any trouble with the stock stand pipes? Should I replace them as well or leave the stock ones? And thank yall for taking the time to help me out on this.
Throwing parts at this will cost alot, when monitoring sensers and even temps will tell you what to tests or to replace,I and so does the rest of the guys here would problem solve and do some clean up first. The Gauge will help with all that. You said the truck shut off does it stall all the time ? surge low power run great for a few days then act up again ? what oil and filters do you have Recommended Oem filters and oil cap 5w 40 synthetic I use Rottella, clean
1. Map connection to Intake
2.Pull EGR and clean put new o-rings back on
3. EBP senser
Pull and clean all three of these things with carb cleaner ware safety Glasses that stuff burns like hell
