I'm trying to find to rear axle ratio on my 2001 F-350 dually and the axle code seems to be missing. Anyone else run into this?

 

there are tags on the front and rear diff that have the axle ratio stamped into them. I TRIED TO GOOGLE YOU VIN BUT IT COMES UP NOT FOUND FOR SOME REASON

I bet the vin# didn't help your search as it doesn't give you that info.

Also, the axle ratio ISN'T printed on the axle tag, just the code #.

i dont know about your truck, but my ford, my dads ford,my brothers ford, both our ford work vans, both my buddies trucks, and ever other Ford ive ever worked on has the ratio stamped into the metal tag on the diff cover bolts

 

Yeah. The tag is missing from being rusted off so I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way.
What are the dually gear ratios? Usually I spin the drive shaft and count about how many times it goes around and chalk it up to the nearest gear ratio.
Say the drive shaft goes around what looks like 3 and 3/4 times then ill say its a 3.73.
But I don't even know what they offered for ratios. That link is for SRW diffs. Did the DRW trucks come with the same ratios as the SRW trucks?

I stand to be corrected. After additional research, you are correct. My mistake. I looked under my truck and see it does show a 3L73 (373 locking) on the tag. It also shows it's a 10.5" ring gear and manuf on June 19, 2006.
My door tag only shows 3L but that's the axle code only on the door sticker.
My apologizes.

to the OP why not just call a local dealer tell them your vin and they can tell you what you have? And since your truck is a V10 dually it could have 3.73, 4.10 or 4.30 gears from the factory

 

No need to call the dealer, see below. I went through this with my Excursion which is also lacking an axle code.

I find it interesting that my Excursion has a steeper axle ratio than a DRW F350. The OP has 3.73s.
