It would be easier to look at the VIN sticker on the B pillar of the driver's side door jam. Look for the Axle category and there should be a two or three character code.Give us that code. It will tell us what the axle ratio is.

The V means that the axle was made at the "Van Dyke" plant/ The "8J10" is the date code The "10 2" is the ring gear size. I suspect that the "10" is really "4 10" and means that the axle ratio is 4.10 . If the complete code is "4L10"-then you have a limited slip differential with 4.10 gears.

You just want to know the axle ratio-right??

Yes. Without climing under the truck and counting turns, trying to do it by the book.
Can not read the "vin tag".
Unable to fi d the vin plate.
But the door jamb tag is good to go,
states
axle =35
tape=2
dso=76
spring=7F

.

35= means that you have a 6250 pound rated axle with 4.10 axle ratio and open differential

DSO 76 = Domestic Sales Office Denver

Spring 7F= refers to Ford part numbers for front and rear springs

Tape 2 = Light Chestnut/Light Desert Tan vinyl tape-if the truck is a two tone paint job.

All of this per my 1992 F series Specification Book

Ok so I have 4.10 gears but there is a Detroit in back. Only rear diff to have in a truck :-)
The truck crawls great in first-high.
But lacks power above 1k rpm.- another issue I must fix. Only 20k on new motor.

thanks for the help, in V,S, CA I will buy you a beer or three.
